Kids Waiting
Will
It Be You?
Kinship of Rice
Lake & Cameron is asking you to help us answer the question that
the youth in our program ask of us, “When
am I going to get a mentor?”
The 12 youth who are waiting are between the ages of 5
through 14 and have a common interest to have an adult in their life
that can spend time with them and learn new skills with them. Some
of their interests include drawing, biking, cooking, learning to
read, building, playing games, fishing, and everything.”
MENTORING WORKS Mentoring can help youth significantly by improving their attitudes toward parents, peers and teachers; encouraging students to stay motivated and focused on their education; providing a positive way for young people to spend free time; helping them face daily challenges; and offering them opportunities to consider new career paths and get much-needed economic skills and knowledge.
VOLUNTEER BENEFITS
Mentors have said, “I was hoping to make a difference in the life of a child, not knowing how much a positive impact mentoring would have for me.” Mentoring benefits the volunteer significantly by developing positive, more reciprocal relationships with youth; getting a break from your busy professional life; fulfilling a goal to make a difference for a child; improving overall health and self-esteem; gaining personal rewards of increased patience; and a chance to acquire skills.
